| Flexibility And You - Part 1 |
|
| To play table tennis (or any sport) successfully requires you to be flexible.
There are a number of benefits to this. Being flexible allows you to exert more force through the different ranges of motion. It also allows for a greater range of movements. Stretching is fundamental to flexibility. Here is one way to improve the flexibility in your shoulders.
Shoulder Stretching
1) Stand tall, feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent
2) Place your right arm, parallel with the ground across the front of your chest
3) Bend the left arm up and use the left forearm to ease the right arm closer to your chest.
4) Twist your torso slightly to the left as you pull with your left forearm
5) You will feel the stretch in the shoulder.
6) Repeat the stretch with the other arm, twisting to the right as your apply pressure with your right forearm.
Any positions and movement beyond the normal range of motion that''s necessary to perfect/perform certain skills will benefit from being more flexible.
